How to Care for Your Instrument
Lifelong Investment
A guitar is a lifelong investment. Wood is directly affected by its environment - humidity and temperature. Your guitar does not like sudden temperature changes. Here are a few tips to keep your guitar happy and healthy. You may already know these things - but if not...
A Good Case
Your best line of defense in keeping your guitar safe is a good case. When you are not playing it, please store it in its closed case. You will be able easily control and maintain proper humidity leval inside the case.
Storage
For storage, your guitar likes humidity between 40-50%. In oder to maintain this range, I recommend using D'Addario (Boveda 49%) Humidity Packs. These are placed inside the sound hole or within the case when your guitar is stored to maintain a safe humidity level. The beauty of these humidity pacs is they are able to "absorb" humidity or "add" humidity to the case interior. Plus they are really easy to use and available online or at most music stores. I've used this system for years without problems, just handle the packs gently and use the D'Addario cloth baggies to protect the membrane unit.
If Your Guitar Is Shipped...
If your guitar is shipped to you, please store the box inside your home, unopened for a couple of hours to let it acclimate to room temperature. This will help prevent the wood and finish from suffering any sudden temperature changes which could cause a crack.
NEVER...
NEVER store your guitar in a hot car or hot attic. The hide glue may melt!
